Bicyclist injured in Houma crash has died, police say
A bicyclist who suffered severe injuries in a crash in Houma last week has died, State Police said Monday.
The crash claimed the life of 21-year-old Colby Prestenback of Gray.
Prestenback’s injuries resulted from a crash that occurred shortly after 5 p.m. May 17 on Coteau Road near Bayou Gardens Boulevard, police said.
Prestenback was riding a bicycle south on the northbound shoulder of Coteau Road. A 2006 Ford F-150 was also traveling east on Bayou Gardens Boulevard and approached the intersection.
For unknown reasons, Prestenback did not stop for a red light and entered the intersection, where he was struck by the pickup. Prestenback, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to an out-of-area hospital, where he died Sunday, State Police said.
The pickup's driver, who was not suspected of being impaired, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, authorities said. A voluntary breath sample showed no alcohol present.
A toxicology sample was collected from Prestenback and results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
