Bicyclist hurt in hit-and-run

Sep. 24—WRIGHT TWP. — Police are looking for the vehicle and its driver that struck a bicyclist Friday morning and fled the scene.

Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputies and Coopersville/Polkton firefighters responded to a hit-and-run personal injury crash in Wright Township at about 7:45 a.m.

The police investigation revealed that a 67-year-old Lamont man was riding his bicycle east on Arthur Street when a vehicle struck him. A witness found the man and his bicycle in the ditch near the 3500 block of Arthur Street. The suspect vehicle had already fled the scene.

A Life EMS ambulance transported the injured bicyclist to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was in stable condition, said Sgt. Rick Sykes of the Sheriff's Office.

The bicyclist was wearing a helmet and reflective clothing at the time of the crash, and the bicycle had proper lights, Sykes said.

The incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office or Silent Observer at 877-887-4536 or online at www.mosotips.com.
