Bethany athlete Taylor Heim commits to OU football's 2023 class, 'ready to get to work'

Coach Brent Venables and the OU football team picked up a commitment from a top 2023 in-state prospect.

Just one week after receiving an Oklahoma offer, Bethany’s Taylor Heim, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound athlete, committed to the Sooners on Friday night. Heim thanked God, his coaches and Bethany supporters in the tweet.

“I’m excited and ready to get to work so I can show what I can do at the next level,” Heim wrote in a tweet. “Thank you Coach Venables and the entire OU staff for giving me this opportunity.”

Heim was named to The Oklahoman’s 2022 Little All-City first team as a defensive back after helping lead the Bronchos to a 9-2 record and a state playoff appearance. During his time with the Bronchos, Heim played multiple positions suiting up as a quarterback, wide receiver, safety and others to help his team.

Heim, the Co-Player of the Year for District 4A-2, could play linebacker at OU. Heim is the 76th-ranked linebacker in his class and the 11th-ranked overall prospect from the state of Oklahoma in 2023, per 247Sports.

“Taylor is an incredibly talented athlete who can play almost any position on the field,” Bethany coach Jon Arthur told The Oklahoman in December. “We played him in a variety of positions. He is getting recruited at the Division-I level mostly as an athlete.”

Heim logged 60 tackles, eight pass break-ups and six interceptions on defense. On offense, he completed 64 of 85 passes for 838 yards and 11 touchdowns. He rushed for 608 yards and six touchdowns and caught four more scores as a receiver. Heim was selected to the Oklahoma Coaches Association's 2023 All-State Game.

Heim also plays basketball and runs track for the Bronchos.

In August, The Oklahoman named Heim as one of the "Top Under the Radar" prospects, in response to its Super 30 series of the state’s top recruits. At the time Heim held just one FCS DI offer, from Houston Baptist. He’s earned several more since then and is expected to sign with the Sooners on Feb. 1, National Signing Day at his high school.

Heim chose the Sooners over FBS schools Tulsa, Air Force, Louisiana Tech and Ohio.
