Best cities in UK to find a new job in 2020

The number of job opportunities on offer in the UK has gone up by 3.7% in the last year, according to a new report by job board CV-Library.

The report compared job market data and statistics from 2018 and 2019 to find the cities that experienced the biggest jump in job adverts in the last year, making them the best locations to look for a new job in 2020.

It’s good news for job hunters in Scotland as Glasgow and Edinburgh top the list as job adverts are up by 25.7% and 20.5% respectively.

Portsmouth (11%), Bristol (10%), and Southampton (8.3%) come in next.

Pay is also going up as average salaries have increased by 3.7% year-on-year, according to the data, with the biggest jumps appearing in Edinburgh (up 8.1%), Leeds (up 6.7%), and Hull (up 5%).

However, competition could be tough as job applications increased by 6.3% across the UK in 2019, the report found. The competition will be steepest for job seekers in Leicester and Bristol, with applications growing by 14.7% and 13% respectively.
