Bengals’ Logan Wilson, others aren’t happy about NFL looking at ‘hip drop’ tackles

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson is one of many NFL players who gave a public “no thanks” to the news the league might look to ban a certain style of tackle this offseason.
The controversy? Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL’s chief medical officer, told the Washington Post’s Mark Maske the league will look into whether it should ban “hip drop” tackles.
Meaning, tackles from behind in which a defender drops all his weight to his hips while trying to drag down a ball-carrier. The style of tackle commonly injured offensive players, including notables recently such as Patrick Mahomes.
Problem is, many players and otherwise argue that’s yet another judgment call thrown into the hands of as-is shaky officiating already. It’s another style of tackling made illegal too, which causes all sorts of problems for defenders and gives yet another advantage to offenses.
