Ben & Jerry's Put Ganache and Toppings Right On Top of Seven New Pints

The "Topped" line includes flavors inspired by Pop-Tarts, Thin Mints, and Vermont whiskey.

Ben & Jerry's may have put themselves on the ice cream map with their wide array of decadent mix-ins, from pretzels to peanut butter cups to ribbons of marshmallow and caramel. But if too much is never enough for you, the Vermont-based brand's latest lineup of seven (!) new pints will have you reaching for your spoon ... or maybe even a fork.

Launching today, the "Topped" series literally adds a new layer to the Ben & Jerry's pint with a generous cap of ganache and sprinkling of toppings appearing as you open each lid. The ganache's texture sits somewhere between the crackable shells on dipped cones and hot fudge on a sundae. It's firm but malleable enough to slide a spoon through without breaking the barrier, especially as it thaws a bit. Then, depending on the flavor, there are additional sprinkles, chocolate pieces, or cups to enjoy before you even hit the ice cream.

Here are the new Topped flavors and descriptions as provided by Ben & Jerry's:

Chocolate Caramel Cookie Dough - Chocolate ice cream with caramel swirls & gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough topped with caramel cups & chocolatey ganache
PB Over the Top - Chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls & peanut butter cups topped with mini peanut butter cups & chocolatey ganache
Salted Caramel Brownie - Vanilla ice cream with salted caramel swirls & fudge brownies topped with caramel cups & chocolatey ganache
Strawberry Topped Tart - Sweet cream ice cream with strawberry swirls & pie crust pieces topped with white chocolatey ganache & candy sprinkles
Thick Mint - Mint ice cream with chocolate cookie swirls & mint chocolate cookie balls topped with chocolate cookies & chocolatey ganache
Tiramisu - Mascarpone ice cream with fudge swirls & shortbread pieces topped with espresso fudge chunks & chocolatey ganache

Whiskey Biz - Brown butter bourbon ice cream with blonde brownies and whiskey caramel swirls topped with white chocolatey ganache and white fudge chunks

"We wanted to dial up the indulgence level with this unique line of flavors, which entirely challenges HOW you eat this ice cream," Dena Wimette, Ben & Jerry's Innovation Guru, said in the announcement. "We started with sundaes and all the things you add to sundaes to make them great as our inspiration. You could say we ended up going over the Topped."

And the aforementioned fork was no joke: In a media preview this week, multiple spokespeople for the brand advocated for ditching the blunt spoon for the more precise tines of a fork to slice through that initial layer of ganache while the rest of the ice cream softens up. Plus, a fork is better for digging out those mixed-in chunks you bought Ben & Jerry's for in the first place. Hey, it's worth a shot.

Topped isn't the only innovation Ben & Jerry's announced this week: In its continuing push to make its core flavors more accessible, the classic Phish Food has joined the ranks of the brand's non-dairy offerings with a newly-available version made with an almond milk base.
