Bemidji storage building deemed total loss after fire Thursday

Jun. 10—BEMIDJI — A storage building has been declared a total loss after a fire broke out Thursday evening in Bemidji.

According to a release from Bemidji Fire Chief Justin Sherwood, at 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, firefighters responded to a structure fire located at 179 Gem Lane NE in Bemidji.

Upon arrival, firefighters found an old house being used as a storage building fully engulfed in fire.

The intensity of the fire caused firefighters to go into defensive mode, the release said. They fought the fire from the exterior with a 2.5-foot attack line, and additional hand lines were pulled to help extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours with 17 firefighters and five pieces of equipment.

The structure and its contents are a total loss, and no injuries have been reported, the release said.

The fire is under investigation but appears to be accidental.

The Bemidji Fire Department was assisted by the Bemidji Police Department, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Minnesota Energy and Beltrami Electric.
