Bemidji City Council to consider 3 outdoor dining applications

May 16—BEMIDJI — The Bemidji City Council has received its first applications from restaurants that wish to have outdoor dining options this summer, which the council will consider during tonight's meeting.

The three restaurants looking for approval to establish outdoor dining areas are Bar 209, That Alien Pizza Place and Keg N' Cork.

Outdoor dining was once again approved for the summer by the city council following a lengthy debate during

its session on Feb. 22

.

The outdoor dining ordinance allows restaurants to apply for permits allowing outdoor seating areas that can take up to three parking spaces in front of their buildings. These outdoor dining areas can operate from May 15 to Sept. 15.

Each restaurant applying needs approval from the city council on a range of requirements, including furnishings, lighting and barriers. The ordinance also requires a public hearing to be held for each application.

In addition to considering applications for outdoor dining, Monday's session will also see a final reading for an ordinance establishing the Sustainability Commission as a formal city body.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. tonight, May 16, at City Hall. The meeting can also be viewed on the city's website,
