Beloved dog dies minutes after 25-year-old owner loses battle with brain cancer
A Scottish man who fought an eight-year battle against cancer and his beloved french bulldog died just 15 minutes apart earlier this month in a devastating blow to the man's family.
Stuart Hutchison, 25, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2011, when he was a teenager, and underwent surgery and multiple rounds of chemotherapy to treat the aggressive disease, according to the Scotsman.
Throughout his long battle, Stuart relapsed twice, in 2014 and 2018, never fully entering remission until the cancer eventually spread to his bones in June 2019. He tragically lost the fight on Aug. 11.
Stuart and his wife, Danielle, who married in January 2019 after getting engaged in 2017, were living with his parents at the time of his death, as he wished to die "where he was born," his loved ones told the Scotsman.
On the morning of the tragedy, Danielle apparently broke her glasses and asked her father to retrieve an extra pair from her and Stuart's home in Clackmannanshire, realizing she probably didn't have much time left with her husband.
There, her father discovered one of the couple's dogs, 2-year-old Nero, in distress and rushed him to an emergency vet, where he was diagnosed with a spinal rupture. The pup, who was said to be "like one" with Stuart, died the same day, shortly after his owner.
Stuart's mother, 52-year-old Fiona Conaghan, took to Facebook to inform loved ones of the deaths of her young son and his beloved companion.
"It is with a broken heart that I let you all know that our much-loved hero Stuart Hutchison passed away peacefully today surrounded by his family and in the arms of his dearly loved wife Danielle," the bereaved mother wrote. "Sadly at almost the same moment Stuart passed his loyal and faithful 4 legged friend Nero also died ... together forever."
