Bechtel Parsons help raise 10,000 for Richmond Salvation Army

Sep. 24—Water, soups, dry and canned goods were loaded into a Salvation Army truck on Thursday afternoon.

Staff with Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass carried goods from the front lobby of the office to be packed away as a part of its food drive to benefit the Richmond Salvation Army.

All throughout the month of August, the Bechtel Parsons group has been accepting canned goods and monetary donations as a part of one of its annual fundraisers.

In addition to hundreds of goods to feed many communities, BPBG was able to raise $10,084 to help with additional needs and foods.

Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass is under contract to the Program Executive Office, Assembled Weapons Alternatives (PEO ACWA), to design, build and operate the Blue Grass Chemical Agent Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) located inside the Blue Grass Army Depot.

Capt. Wendy Justice, a pastor and officer with the Richmond Salvation Army, said these funds will help the local Salvation Army serve Madison, Estill, Lee, Jackson, Rockcastle, Clay and Owsley counties.

While the organization was not able to load and unload and be presented in-person with their check in 2020, the event was previously hosted in 2019. That year, the fundraiser brought in more than 3,800 cans, and $4,639.

"It is really great," said Capt. Justice. "Once again this is going to helping have financial assistance for those counties to have more food, and we think that is just great."

Bechtel Parsons also does fundraisers in conjunction with other organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Special Olympics, the Children's Charity of the Bluegrass and the American Diabetes Association.
