Beato, Krick lead Muhlenberg to 2-0 win over Gettysburg in District 3 Class 5A baseball

May 25—Luis Beato belted a solo home run and stole home as eighth-seeded Muhlenberg shut out ninth-seeded Gettysburg 2-0 in a District 3 Class 5A baseball first-round game Monday night at Laureldale.

Beato's home run came in the third inning and his steal came in the sixth on the front end of a double steal.

Right-hander Alex Krick struck out 11 and threw a five-hit shutout for Muhlenberg (13-8), which advanced to a quarterfinal Thursday against Manheim Central or Mechanicsburg.

Kutztown 7, Upper Dauphin 4 >> At Elizabethville, Matt Remick and Dalton Furst each drove in two runs as fifth-seeded Kutztown beat fourth-seeded Upper Dauphin in a District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal.

The Cougars (9-11) advanced to a semifinal Thursday at top-seeded Camp Hill, which had a bye, in a rematch of the 2019 district final won by Kutztown.

Remick went 2-for-4 and scored a run for the Cougars, who took advantage of five errors by the Trojans (13-7). Sam Schaeffer had two singles and two stolen bases, Rabert doubled and singled and Ian Fenerty singled twice.

Grant Fitzgerald pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs to get the win. Rabert picked up the save, striking out three in two innings.

Northern York 3, Exeter 1 >> At Dillsburg, Tommy Molsky pitched a four-hitter and struck out 14 as the fourth-seeded Polar Bears (17-4) beat the 13th-seeded Eagles (11-9) in a District 3 Class 5A first-round game.

Exeter starter Luke Weller allowed one earned run and three hits in five innings. Deven Sheerin had an RBI double that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the fourth before Northern York scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth.

Hamburg 5, Littlestown 3 >> Hunter Shuey threw five no-hit innings and Conner Licklider went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead the 10th-seeded Hawks (13-8) past the seventh-seeded Thunderbolts (11-8) in a District 3 Class 4A first-round game.

Shuey struck out eight and walked two before Jacob Fegley pitched the final two innings, allowing three runs on one hit. Connor Gruber went 2-for-4 for Hamburg.

Braden Unger singled in the sixth inning for Littlestown's only hit.

Boys volleyball

Lower Dauphin 3, Brandywine Heights 0 >> Top-seeded Lower Dauphin swept Brandywine Heights 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-18) in a District 3 Class 2A boys volleyball quarterfinal Monday at Hummelstown.

Brogan Coffin had 10 kills for the Bullets, who finished the season 9-10. Brydon Ambruster had eight kills, Owen Lichtenwalner had three blocks and four digs and Evan Stoudt had three blocks.

The Falcons are ranked fourth in the state in Class 2A by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.
