Bear spray unleashed during fight in shopping mall, hospitalizing one, Utah police say

Someone released bear spray in a fight at an Ogden shopping mall, sending one person to a hospital, Utah police told news outlets.

The fight broke out at Newgate Mall at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, Ogden police told KUTV.

One of the combatants released a can of bear spray, primarily at one person, police told KSTU. That person was hospitalized and others were treated at the scene.

Ogden firefighters ventilated the mall to clear the bear spray, KTVX reported.

The fight apparently involved two groups who had a confrontation at the mall, KSTU reported. Police are still trying to identify who released the bear spray.

Emma Anderson, who was at a movie at the mall with her husband, told KUTV the theater had blocked the main entrance and told them to use other exits because of the incident.

Ogden is a city of 87,000 people about 40 miles north of Salt Lake City.
