BCSO: 1 injured in shooting, rollover crash on Paseo

Jul. 24—A noontime shooting that led to a rollover crash left a person injured and shuttered eastbound Paseo del Norte at Coors as deputies investigated the Friday incident.

Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter around 12:45 p.m. that a person was taken to a hospital and is in an "unknown condition at this time."

"This is all the information we have at this time, the investigation is ongoing," the post read.

BCSO said detectives were investigating and Paseo del Norte would be closed until further notice. Almost two hours later, BCSO posted an update on Twitter that deputies reopened Paseo.

"Please drive with caution in the area. No patient update at this time," the update read.

BCSO did not give any suspect information.

Around noon, multiple deputies could be seen around a dirt-covered sedan along Paseo del Norte as paramedics loaded a man with his head bandaged into an ambulance.

As the ambulance drove off, a single bullet hole could be seen in the driver's side window of the sedan. Down the road, Albuquerque police and BCSO deputies blocked the Second NW on-ramp to Paseo.

This is the second time this year BCSO has investigated a shooting that involved a rollover crash.

In April, deputies responded to a crash on the West Side and found Ali Assad, 16, and Anthony Vigil, 22, shot to death inside a flipped vehicle. Witnesses told deputies a group of people were shooting at the vehicle before it rolled and fired at the crashed vehicle afterward.

No arrests have been made in that case.
