Baxter volleyball loses pair to Martensdale-St. Marys, Don Bosco

Sep. 24—MARTENSDALE — Allison Colyn and Maggie Schabilion both had career nights on the volleyball floor on Sept. 16. But Baxter's volleyball team couldn't overcome a slow start during a five-set non-conference loss to Martensdale-St. Marys.

The Bolts rallied from down 2-0 but the Blue Devils (7-6) ultimately won 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-27, 15-6.

Colyn's double-double of 28 assists and 17 digs led the Bolts, while Schabilion tallied a career-high 21 kills. Colyn also had three aces and Schabilion chipped in three digs.

Abbie Meyer finished with 18 digs and six kills, Mandee Selover tallied a career-best seven blocks and chipped in four digs and two kills and Julie Damman contributed a career-high six blocks and had two digs and two aces.

Lilyan Headlee tallied 18 digs, Evelyn Boothroyd had three digs, Kendyl Stevenson chipped in two digs and Calleah Frink collected two blocks.

The Bolts (4-8) missed 15 serves, finishing 73-of-88. Damman was 17-of-17 in serves, Meyer served 15-of-16 and Selover was 14-of-15.

Don Bosco 3, Baxter 0

GILBERTVILLE — The Bolts struggled against Don Bosco on Sept. 14, losing in three sets during Iowa Star Conference cross-division competition.

The Dons (7-7) won 25-14, 25-12, 25-11 at home.

Colyn finished with five assists, six digs and two kills, Meyer chipped in three kills, two digs and two aces and Headlee contributed nine digs.

Schabilion had five digs, Selover put down two kills and Boothroyd and Stevenson each had two digs.

The Bolts were 32-of-35 in serves with Meyer going 8-of-8.
