BASEBALL: Verdigris, Sequoyah, Catoosa compete in 4A Regional 7

May 7—Verdigris picked up a pair of wins in Class 4A Regional 7 on Thursday, moving to within one game of the state tournament.

The Cardinals played the winner of Sequoyah and Sallisaw at 6:30 p.m. Friday. They would have to lose twice to be eliminated. Catoosa also competed in the regional but was eliminated after losses of 7-3 and 6-1 to Sallisaw and Sequoyah, respectively.

Verdigris topped Sequoyah 9-1 in its first game before blasting the Black Diamonds 11-0. It collected 16 hits total in those wins, including seven doubles and a triple.

Jax Ryan pitched the Cardinals to victory against the Eagles, and Cody Bressie earned the win on the mound against Sallisaw.

In Sequoyah's win versus Catoosa, Nathan Dorsey and Preston Patterson accounted for two hits apiece to lead the team's eight-hit effort. Brett and Trey Burks both pitched in the victory, combining for five strikeouts while allowing only three hits.
