Baseball shows support for CC Sabathia following injury in possible final game
This isn’t the ending anyone wanted for CC Sabathia.
The New York Yankees left-hander pitched until his body said no more during Game 4 of the American League Championship Series.
Sabathia, 39, was removed after facing four batters in relief during the eighth inning of the Yankees 8-3 loss to the Houston Astros. After his 20th pitch, manager Aaron Boone and the Yankees athletic trainer came out to check on Sabathia. He fired one warm up pitch and walked off after suffering what the team confirmed to be a shoulder injury.
Manager Aaron Boone described the situation as “not good” during his postgame press conference.
Sabathia announced this would be his final season during spring training, meaning Thursday’s game will almost certainly be the final one of his storied MLB career.
The active leader in wins, innings, games started, batters faced and strikeouts was given an emotional-filled send-off from the crowd at Yankee Stadium.
So many emotions. So much respect for CC Sabathia.
