Baseball roundup: YME stings CMCS

May 17—PRINSBURG — Yellow Medicine East's offense did its heavy lifting in the first inning.

And from there, Nikson Knapper closed the door on Central Minnesota Christian.

The Sting got the 3-0 Camden Conference baseball victory Monday.

YME began the game with back-to-back singles by Knapper and Drew Almich. A Cody Dahlager grounder got through the infield, allowing a run to score. Almich reached home on a wild pitch, then Dahlager slid into home for the final run after a Nolan Hildahl single.

Dahlager paced the Sting's offense, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

With the three-run lead, Knapper kept the Bluejays' bats at bay. The senior right-hander struck out 11 in a complete-game victory. He didn't allow a walk.

CMCS' biggest threat came in the bottom of the fourth. Ethan Bulthuis led off with a single, then reached third on a Josh Nelson base hit. Nelson was the Bluejays' top hitter, going 2-for-3.

Even with a run 90 feet away, Knapper was able to compose himself. He struck out the next three batters. From that point, no Bluejay player advanced past first base.

Despite taking the loss, Nelson had a solid outing starting on the mound for CMCS. He struck out five over five innings.

YME has a quick turnaround, hosting Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Granite Falls. CMCS plays a pair of games at home Thursday: 4 p.m. against MACCRAY; and 6 p.m. against Lakeview.
