Barton's Flowers has a new owner
Jul. 4—Barton's Flowers, 1722 St. Michael's Drive, has new owners — the company's fifth set since the business was established in 1962.
Married couple Justin Svetnicka and Kristin Sargent acquired the business April 26.
Svetnicka, a business broker at Barker Realty, actually listed Barton's Flowers for sale, and he and Sargent ultimately decided to buy the business themselves.
"It was the right time," Svetnicka said. "We certainly felt it was a viable business. We needed to do something more creative and positive in our careers."
Sargent had done residential real estate for the past four years but now is full-time at Barton's. Svetnicka is staying with Barker Realty but is handling business matters at the flower shop.
"We're concentrating much more or an effort on helping people plan medium and large events," said Svetnicka, who earlier worked 16 years for Santa Fe Dining, including about five as chief operating officer. "We are trying to make the shop more appealing for walk-in traffic."
Stephen Jones and Chris Hill had bought Barton's Flowers seven years ago as the fourth owners, referring to their tenure as "Barton 4.0."
