Barstow felon arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, possessing drugs, firearm

A Barstow felon was arrested on suspicion of  possessing a firearm and drugs, and child endangerment, sheriff’s officials reported.

A 47-year-old felon was arrested in Barstow on suspicion of child endangerment, and possessing a firearm and drugs, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials reported.

Ronald Statum, 47, of Barstow remained at the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto on Monday, with bail set at $100,000. He is scheduled to appear on Tuesday in Victorville Superior Court, sheriff’s officials said.

Barstow Police Officer B. Carson traveled to the 25000 block of West Main Street and contacted Statum, who was currently listed on probation with a narcotics violation out of Los Angeles County.

The location is east of Lenwood Road and south of the BNSF railroad tracks.

With an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, Officer Carson placed Statum under arrest and conducted a probation check of his residence.

Inside, the officer located a loaded sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun, a loaded sawed-off .410 shotgun, and a loaded 9mm polymer 80 “Ghost gun” along with ammunition, police officials said.

Officer Carson also reported finding methamphetamine and Fentanyl inside his residence where a 4-year-old juvenile resided. The firearms and narcotics were located in areas of the residence that were immediately accessible to the juvenile.

Statum was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for felon in possession of a firearm, ammunition and fentanyl, and child endangerment.
