Specialist baked potato chain Spudulike is going to disappear from UK high streets.

The eatery, which has a 45 year history in Britain, will be shutting all 37 of its restaurants, costing 300 jobs in the process, according to The Guardian.

The report said that the ailing business has collapsed after it failed to convince its landlords to support a restructure.

In a letter sent to staff, Spudulike said it had been “under financial pressure” and after years of trying to enact on a number of alternative options to save the business, it had run out of time. It said it also failed to find a buyer of the business.

Plymouth Live reported that staff at some of the branches were told that the eateries would be shuttering, only 20 minutes before the shops were due to open. One staff member told the media outlet that it will mean some workers will be "struggling to live."

Another member of staff told The Guardian: “The branch I worked in was given zero notice of this action; in fact, staff arrived at the store [on Friday] none the wiser.”

Both media outlets say that a number of workers were owed two weeks’ pay.
