Back-to-School giveaways around Jacksonville

Action News Jax is your back to school station and today multiple schools and locations around town had some back-to-school giveaways.

Students and their parents got more than just school supplies.  One of the first places was Jean Ribault High School. Here Students are getting set up with school supplies and parents are getting important information about health insurance.

Ribault students from the past two decades came out to make sure kids in their area were ready for school next week.

“Everything from backpacks, to resources, hygiene products and books,” says Darryl Willie.

The class of 1985 and others donated more than 1400 backpacks filled with school supplies.  It wasn’t just about the kids, parents got in on the action too. Resources for health insurance was available.

“Learning has to go on outside of school,” says Karmel Williams.

“What resources they have at the house actually impacts how they learn,” says Darryl Willie.

“Without that the learning could stop once they leave the school,” says Karmel Williams.

Another back-to-school give away was right here in one of Jacksonville’s most popular shopping centers. The St. Johns Town Center.  Florida Blue Center and 4 local vendors helped supply backpacks and had a few fun activities like face paintings.

Are you excited to go back to school? “yes.” what are you most excited for? “to see all my friends.” ok and what’s your favorite subject? “math” why? “well, because it’s just easy,” says Nyla.

Other back-to-school giveaways around town included an Arlington Interfaith Community Group, The Friends of Brentwood Branch Library and 121 Financial Credit Union.
