B-R, Clark play at regional

Sep. 26—MONTGOMERY — Neither Washington's Channey Clark, nor the Barr-Reeve golf team advanced out of the Country Oaks Regional under windy but beautiful weather on Saturday.

However, both should be very solid next season and with a number of underclassman both should make a case for returning next year.

Clark had a solid 84, that had her in the hunt to get one of the two individual spots, but Trinity Dubbs of South Knox shot 75 and of Emma Ruxer of Jasper advanced with a 79 to seal up those spots.

Castle dominated with a team 296 and put four scores in the 70s, while BNL shot 344 and Gibson Southern added a 355 to also advance.

Barr-Reeve shot 388 to finish seventh and completed the year with 64 wins. Sophomore Olivia Emmons led with a 90 for the Vikes, Braylee and Brynna Knepp both shot 98, Madison Brunson added a 102 and Brynna Rollins added a 111.

"We had some pretty good highs this week coming back our home course for regional. We didn't make our best showing coming home, but two of our girls got to experience a regional course for the second time. A lot of them have never seen this course this way. So we got some good experience out of it. You know, we're looking forward to what's coming up next few years and be able to make improvements as they go on. We've got a really good shot at sectional for next year. And with what's coming in, we should make another good girls' run next year," said B-R coach Joe Robinson.

Josh Butcher, the Washington coach, was very proud of Clark and her 84. Under previous years, five individuals qualified, but the IHSAA recently added an additional regional site that cut down the number of individual qualifiers.

"I was very, very happy with the way Channey played today. She had a rough few holes in the middle, but she bounced back really well and really just showed the maturity she gained this year and gave herself a shot to at least get out. I was really, really proud of her work ethic this year and really proud of the way she played today. Her 84 was second for a long while so we stuck around for a while just to try to see if she got that chance, but since the IHSAA switched it from five (players) to two, it made it a lot more difficult for any individuals to get out. She did really well and I'm of proud of her. It's going to be a fun year next year with her and Madi (Dalton) as seniors. Trey Miller (tournament director) and the whole team here at Country Oaks does an amazing job putting on this regional. It is a great place, not just for us here locally in Daviess County, but for the entire state."
