Astros are the best bet to win the 2020 World Series, according to very early odds

The champagne stains aren’t dry yet from the Washington Nationals’ celebration of their first World Series championship, but time marches on. The end of the World Series is the official end of the baseball season, which means it’s time to speculate about who’ll be happy 12 months from now.

The first round of extremely early 2020 World Series odds are out from SuperBook, and the Houston Astros, Wednesday night’s losers, are at the top.

Just behind the Astros’ 5-to-1 odds are the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, tied at 6-to-1. The Atlanta Braves, eliminated in the National League Division Series, are at 10-to-1, just ahead of the Boston Red Sox at 12-to-1. And in sixth place are this year’s World Series champion Nationals at 14-to-1.

So much can and will happen between now and the next World Series. The Hot Stove hasn’t even been turned on yet, and we’re still cleaning off the dust and wiping away the cobwebs. Third baseman Anthony Rendon, one of the Nationals’ World Series heroes, is a free agent. So is the Astros’ Gerrit Cole, who left Minute Maid Park on Wednesday night feeling deeply unsatisfied. World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg has just three days to decide if he wants to opt out of his contract or stay with the Nats.

If you’re a fan of a team with less-than-stellar odds, don’t let them get you down. Just look to the Nationals, who beat the odds to topple the mighty Astros and win the World Series.
