Asian American Futures and Gold House to award 10 AAPI organizations total of $500K in grants

Asian American Futures and Gold House joined forces to launch the Gold Futures Challenge, an online grant competition that will award the top 10 Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) finalists with $25,000 to $100,000.

“Seen, Heard, Empowered and United”: The inaugural Gold Futures Challenge received 160 applications from AAPI-led organizations throughout the country, and the top 10 finalists were chosen by a selection committee composed of philanthropists, business people, academics and celebrities.

• Members of the committee included Weijia Jiang, Richard Lui, Chanel Miller, MILCK, Tamlyn Tomita and more.

• The finalists are: API Equality – Northern California; Asian American Women’s Political Initiative; Asian Media Access; Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment; North Carolina Asian Americans Together; Stories Within; The Legal Clinic; United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance; Xīn Shēng Project; and Kua'aina Ulu 'Auamo.

• The challenge is in its final stages, and the general public will help determine how the funds will be distributed to each of the finalists.

• The public vote opened on Oct. 12 and runs through Oct. 31.

Impact and innovation: “The Gold Futures Challenge aims to address this issue by creating a sustainable pool of funding that our community can rely on to launch innovative and impactful projects, especially those led by organizations with the least access to traditional philanthropic dollars,” Vivian Long, executive director for the Long Family Foundation (LFF), told NextShark in an email.

• Besides funding, winners will also take home non-monetary prizes, including a membership to the Gold House Future Network.

• The top five finalists will get a one-year membership to Resilia, a tech platform that helps nonprofits increase capacity and funding.

• All 10 finalists will be subscribed to Catchafire, an organization that matches experts with nonprofits.

• The top 10 finalists and semi-finalists are invited to the Node Institute where they will participate in professional development workshops.
