Ashland crowns trio of champions

Dec. 3—PHOENIX — Ashland finished with three champions and four runner-up showings to highlight Friday's Phoenix Invitational wrestling tournament in the Pirates' gym.

Heavyweight Jack Bauer, 138-pounder Perrin Helsel and 106-pounder Ollie Teagarden went unbeaten in the seven-school event for the Grizzlies, while teammates Mo Kluberspies (160), Will Downs (170), Alan Helsel (182) and Kekoa Kaho'okaulana (285) each placed second.

Crater secured two titles behind the efforts of Isaiah Voorhies (160) and Tyler Hathaway (220), while Mike Diaz (106), Haeden Durighello (126), Moses Kyne (132) and Tyler Fitzgerald (138) finished second.

Host Phoenix was able to generate a championship run from Marcelo Camargo at 182 pounds, while teammate Jose Espinoza was runner-up at 220.

Illinois Valley led the field by crowning seven champions in the 14 weight classes.
