Ashes 2019: Jimmy Anderson set for scan on 'tight' calf
Jimmy Anderson is set have a scan on his calf after experiencing ‘tightness’ while bowling on day one of the first Ashes Test against Australia.
England’s all-time record wicket-taker, managed to bowl four overs, conceding just a single run before being replaced by Chris Woakes.
The 37-year-old continued to field for the remainder of the morning session but left at lunch with Australia 83-3.
Anderson, who missed England’s warm-up match against Ireland, is set for a scan later on Thursday.
It’s unclear if the latest injury is related to the calf injury he suffered playing for Lancashire in July which ruled him out of the Ireland Test.
Should the extent of the injury cause Anderson to miss further action in the series, Jofra Archer is likely to be drafted in as his replacement.
The fast bowler who starred for England during the recent World Cup triumph, also had injury concerns, revealing he was in ‘excruciating pain’ and needed painkillers for a side strain for much of the tournament.
