Arts Cafe Mystic presents poet Mahogany L. Browne Friday

Dec. 8—On Friday, the Arts Café Mystic presents a program featuring activist poet Mahogany L. Browne. As executive director of JustMedia, a media literacy initiative designed to support the groundwork of criminal justice leaders and community members, Browne's work and experiences in this context fuel her vibrant poetry.

The reading takes place in the Mystic Museum of Art.

Browne's recent works include the novel-in-verse "Chlorine Sky," about a young girl coming of age and emerging from the shadow of her best friend, and the just-published collection "I Remember Death By Its Proximity to What I Love," a vigorous and beautifully eloquent response to the impact of mass incarceration on women and children.

The evening's Opening Voice poet will be Jen Lightly, and Dr. Westchesterson provides music.

Mahogany L. Browne, Arts Café Mystic, 7 p.m. Friday, Mystic Museum of Art, 9 Water St., Mystic; doors open at 6:30 p.m.; $15, $5 students; email info@theartscafemystic.org.
