A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a young mother in Halifax town centre.
Levi Ogden, 26, from Elland, West Yorkshire, was left unconscious following an “altercation” in Silver Street on Sunday morning.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.
Officers were called to the scene at 2.16am on Sunday. West Yorkshire Police said a 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Ms Ogden’s brother, Milo Ogden, published a Facebook tribute.
He wrote: “You will forever be in my heart big sis, you had so much more to live for and you had it tore from you.
“You was there for me all my life, watching over me. I will make you proud Levi. In loving memory of my beautiful sister Levi”.
A JustGiving page set up to cover funeral costs and raise money for Ms Ogden’s two children has so far reached more than £2,000.
It said: “As many of you are aware Levi Ogden was taken from us leaving her 2 beautiful children behind so if we can raise enough to pay for the funeral and have a little left over for the babies it will help… a great deal.”
In a statement, West Yorkshire Police said: “Detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Halifax.
“At 2.16am today (3/11) police were called to an incident where a woman had been left unconscious following an altercation in Silver Street, Halifax.
“The 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.
“A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.”
Forensic experts carried out an examination of the scene and detectives were carrying out inquiries to establish what happened.
