Hello A-J readers!

Between the snow day fun and trying to meet earlier deadlines due to the weather, we learned about several business openings and deals.

Starting the week, I had the chance to interview Emilly Foxworth, whose family owns the local HobbyTown. They decided to build their own building, which brightly stands out on 82nd Street. The new space doubles the size, and will allow them to offer more inventory and classes.

"To renovate a building in Lubbock, you may as well just build your own, it's not that much more," Foxworth said. "We're building a legacy, and hope to hand this down to the next generation."

Velvet Taco released a special "Wreck 'em" game day menu for Red Raider fans this week. Venecia Willis, chef and the company's director of culinary, detailed the new menu, along with her recommendations.

"We want to connect people with food memories and things people can relate to," Willis said. "The creativity behind it was to find things that the college student population craves, and is delicious."

Habit Burger also commented on their hunt for a Lubbock franchisee. John Phillips, Chief Global Business Partnerships Officer for the company, detailed why they want to hit the Hub City.

"We are continuing to build on both coasts, and now it is time for us to go into the mid- and southwest," Phillips said. "We think there is a lot of growth for us there (in Texas), and we would love to be part of the Texas community."

Buckner Children and Family Services also announced that their campus on Brentwood would be listed as for sale soon. Officials reiterated that their services would not be impacted, as they would work from the South Loop 289 campus until additional office space could be leased.

Other re-openings or openings included The Spud Truck and Java Jet at 66th Street and Indiana Avenue. La Potranca Bar & Grill opened on Monday, Jan. 23 at 227 US Highway 87. The grill offers a selection of Mexican cuisine, including pork asado and carne guisada.

7 Brew Coffee also announced a grand opening at 1415 University Ave. The new shop will open on Jan. 30, and a grand opening celebration is set for Feb. 11.
