An around-the-clock indoor pickleball facility plans a Midlands opening. Here’s where

One of the fastest growing sports in the nation is going to be getting a new indoor facility in the Midlands.

A sign touting the coming development of 24 Hour Pickleball has been erected at 4590 Augusta Highway in Lexington, just east of the nearby Lizard’s Thicket.

“Indoor pickleball coming soon,” the sign says. It also teases the idea that the coming business will be “the largest indoor pickleball facility in SC.”

The sign indicates 24 Hour Pickleball will have coaching, tournaments, leagues, memberships and more.

According to 24 Hour Pickleball’s Facebook page, the facility is aiming for a June 2023 opening. The business also says on Instagram that it’s eyeing a summer 2023 opening. The business describes itself on Facebook as a “24/7/365 dedicated facility with indoor courts.”

Those looking for information about memberships can fill out a form on 24hourpickleball.com. The website also teases coming locations in Greenville, Charleston, Charlotte, Asheville and Augusta.

Pickleball is a sport that has exploded in popularity in the U.S. According to a piece in National Geographic, the sport now has nearly 5 million players across the nation, a number 40% higher than 2020. The Sports and Fitness Industry Association tabbed it the fastest growing sport in the country.

As noted by USA Pickleball, it is a sport that can be played indoors and outdoors, and it combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Matches can be played in singles or doubles, and it is a game that has proven popular with both young and old players.
