Armstrong, Rook win on Senior Night

Sep. 24—The Washington Hatchet tennis team fell to Southridge in a Senior Night match at Lena Dunn. Under perfect weather conditions, WHS lost 3-2 to the PAC's Raiders but the two lone seniors Caleb Armstrong and Jaylyn Rook did pick up a win at No. 1 doubles.

"The Washington boys tennis team honored seniors and their parents on Thursday before the conference match against Southridge. We have two seniors on the team that play the No. 1 doubles position. Caleb Armstrong and Jaylyn Rook have been partners for two seasons, and together they have compiled a record of 32 wins and 8 losses in the two years as a team. I could not be more proud of these two young men and their accomplishments," said WHS coach Jason Johnston.

Against the Raiders, Jayden Meredith of Washington also got a win, as he beat Max Rasche, 6-3, 3-6 and 6-1. At No. 2, Eli Newberry fell to Mick Uebelhor, 0 and 0, while Eli Parsons lost to Luke Ramsey, 1 and 1.

Armstrong and Rook won 6-0 and 6-2 over Raiders Cory Abell and Kyen Theyn at No. 1 doubles, while Ryan Emmick and Alex Myers lost 0 and 1 to Gabe Boeglin and Brice King.

"The team competed against Southridge, but we just could not get over the hump and earn the third point to win the match. Caleb and Jaylyn started out being aggressive and hitting their spots to win in straight sets. Jayden Meredith, at the number one singles position, stepped up in today's match and won in three tough sets," added Johnston.
