Armour, Kroger, Walmart store brands among canned meat recall on contamination threat
A recall that’s big all over — canned food colossus Conagra Brands, 2.5 million pounds of product, the brands of two U.S. brobdingnagian grocers in Walmart and Kroger) — mostly concerns possible contamination of a tiny food: Vienna sausages.
And, though nine brands are involved in this recall, the hardest hit is the Vienna sausage king name brand, Armour Star.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall late Tuesday night.

“The problem was discovered when the establishment (Conagra) notified FSIS after observing spoiled and/or leaking cans from multiple production dates at the establishment’s warehouse,” the USDA-written recall notice stated. “Subsequent investigation by the establishment determined that the cans subject to recall may have been damaged in a manner that is not readily apparent to consumers, which may allow foodborne pathogens to enter the cans.”
Conagra’s recall pulled Vienna sausages and potted meat sold under these brands:
▪ Armour Star (Original, Chicken, Jalapeno, Barbecue-flavored, Bourbon BBQ flavored);
▪ Goya;
▪ Grace;
▪ Great Value, Walmart’s store brand;
▪ Hargis House;
▪ Hereford;
▪ Kroger’s store brand;
▪ Prairie Belt;
▪ Valrico.

If you have any of the recalled canned meats, return them to the store for a full refund. Or toss them. But don’t use them.
