Arkansas basketball at Baylor: Scouting report, score prediction for SEC-Big 12 Challenge

Arkansas basketball has a tough road test in its next game when it takes on No. 17 Baylor. It's a rematch of the 2021 Elite Eight, when the Razorbacks fell to Baylor 81-72. The Bears went on to win the national title.

In that NCAA Tournament matchup, Arkansas guard Davonte Davis was the Razorbacks' leading scorer with 14. He is the only Arkansas player still on the roster to have played in that game.

Now, Arkansas (14-6) will be seeking its first true road win of the season, while Baylor (15-5) will try to extend its winning streak to six games.

Baylor's resume

Baylor started conference play 0-3, but has since gone on a tear. The Bears are in the middle of a five-game winning streak, most recently taking down No. 9 Kansas.

Outside of that three-game skid, Baylor has had a strong season. The Bears have beaten five teams currently projected to make the NCAA Tournament according to ESPN Bracketology. Arkansas has beaten two.

Baylor is No. 14 in the NET rankings. Arkansas is No. 24.

Bears' dynamic duo

Baylor has two players averaging about 16 points per game: Guards Keyonte George and Adam Flagler.

George, a freshman, is a former five-star prospect and McDonald's All-American. He was rated the No. 8 player in his class by 247Sports. He averages a team-best 16.9 points per game, and his 4.6 rebounds per game is the best mark among Baylor guards.

Flagler, a fifth-year senior, averages 16.1 points per game and leads the team with 5.1 assists per game. He was Baylor's second-leading scorer in its upset over Kansas, scoring 17.

High-powered Baylor offense vs. solid Arkansas defense

Baylor ranks No. 2 in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency, according to KenPom. The Bears actually sit near the bottom of the Big 12 in field goal percentage (45.2%), but they have the second-best 3-point percentage (35.8%). That gives them an adjusted field goal percentage of 53.3%, the fourth-best mark in the conference.

Arkansas ranks No. 15 in adjusted defensive efficiency, making Saturday's game a good strength-on-strength matchup. The Razorbacks have held opponents to 41% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc. Arkansas' defense will need to be at its best to slow down Baylor's offense and keep the Razorbacks in the game.

Score prediction

Baylor 74, Arkansas 68: Baylor is going to present a tough environment. The Razorbacks will play a competitive game, particularly on defense, holding Baylor under their 79 points per game average. The Bears will continue to roll, however, and Arkansas will remain winless on the road.
