Area Softball Roundup: Alexandria sweeps Willmar in opener

Apr. 16—ALEXANDRIA — It was a difficult season-opener for the Willmar softball team.

Willmar was swept in a doubleheader with Alexandria on Thursday.

Willmar lost 18-8 and 19-2 in the matchup of Central Lakes Conference teams.

In the first game, Amelia Reed went 3-for-4 and Hailie Smith, Lily Reed, Bentley Sjoberg and Ashley Pitzen all had two hits for Willmar.

In the second game, Sjoberg and Caroline Becker had a hit for Willmar.

Willmar (0-2) is scheduled to host Rocori at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a doubleheader.

Avery Stilwell was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI, helping Litchfield (1-0) to a Wright County Conference win over Dassel-Cokato in Cokato.

Ema DeWolf also had multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Britney Prahl and Izzy Pennertz also drove in runs in the Dragons' victory.

Taylor Draeger was the winning pitcher, holding the Chargers to two hits while striking out four and walking one over seven shutout innings.

A 14-run first inning helped Paynesville beat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City in the season-opener at Paynesville.

The game was called after four innings because of the 15-run rule. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth with one out.

Mikayla Roberg, Lynzee Wander, Madison Leyendecker and Paige Ludwig all had two hits for Paynesville.

Haley Wilner had ACGC's lone hit.
