Area softball rained out Monday

Aug. 9—A small flash flood of rain, wind and other weather elements forced some area softball games that were originally to be held on opening day to postpone to later dates.

The Duncan Lady Demons were set to open the 2022 campaign at 3 p.m. Aug. 8 against district rival Altus Lady Bulldogs when the small cell of storms came blasting through Stephens County.

Small hail and localized flooding with heavy winds put the Duncan softball field under water enough so to force the postponement of the district game with the Lady Bulldogs.

Coach Robert Cowan was working with Altus to set a date for the remake of game one as they will now travel to Davis for the first game of 2022 officially.

That game will take place at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at Davis High School as the Lady Demons look to open the campaign to improve their record to 1-0.

Marlow was the other Stephens County game that had to move around its opener against Lexington as the home opener had to be moved to their opponent's field.

As they traveled to Lexington, the same cell of rain hit Lexington to postpone that game for a later date, according to Coach Trevor Hudgens.

Marlow will now have their home opener with the first pitch at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 against Apache High School to open up the 2022 campaign.

Other area softball games were still on, including Central High's opener against Rush Springs with a result not reported as of press time.

Once all games that were postponed have been rescheduled, The Banner will publish updates as information becomes available.
