Moyer picks up first wins with Oskaloosa

CHARITON — First year Oskaloosa head wrestling coach Derek Moyer not only picked up his first win on Thursday, but he picked up his first three wins as Oskaloosa swept a quad against Grinnell, Saydel and Chariton.

Osky started with a hard-fought dual against a Little Hawkeye Conference foe in Grinnell. All 14 matches would end in six-point results. The two teams exchanged a pair of wins to start out as Alex Russell (113) won by forfeit and Ty Lorentzen (120) quickly picked up a fall.

Oskaloosa would then win four out of the next six matches to jump ahead 36-18 with Trey Miller (132) getting a forfeit win and Garrett Roethler (138), Aden Scott (152) and Lucas Phillips (160) all getting first period pins.

Grinnell would bounce back with three straight wins by fall to tie things up at 36 before forfeiting at 220 and 285 to give Osky the win.

The Indians would turn around and pick up a convincing win over Saydel. Miller (132), JT Baker (160), Carson Shilling (170), Bobby Opheim (182), Will Campbell (195) and Dawson Braden (285) all picked up wins by fall.

Osky would then finish off the night in similar fashion by discarding Chariton, who gave the Indians eight wins by forfeit. Scott (152) and Lorentzen (113) both won by fall while Elliot Adam (120) got a solid 5-2 win by decision.

Oskaloosa goes to the Dallas Center-Grimes Tournament on Saturday at 10 a.m.
