Area roundup: Lewiston rallies for first win in volleyball program history

Sep. 28—LEWISTON — After dropping the opening set, Lewiston rallied to win the final three and earn the first-year volleyball program's first victory, 3-1, over visiting North Yarmouth Academy (2-5) on Monday.

The Blue Devils (1-6) fell 25-16 before pulling out set wins at 25-20, 25-13 and 25-17.

Theresa Shaw was 16-for-16 serving with seven aces, 17 digs and five kills while going 14-for-14 attacking.

Also for Lewiston, Sage Cormier filled the stat sheet with five aces, six digs and six kills; Isa Tillier-Munoz added 15 assists, three kills, one ace and one block; Maddie Oliviera notched seven aces, four assists and one kill; Kenzie Garcia recorded four kills and one block; Alex Gutshall had three aces and five digs; and Kaitlyn Shannon pitched in with two aces and three kills.

For the Panthers, Madilyn Onorato was 11-for-11 serving with five kills, three blocks and two digs. Charlotte McLatchy had four aces and one dig, Jessica Merrill recorded two aces, five digs and one assist and one kill, and Bella Moulton added three kills and two digs.

Autumn Freeman scored the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting the Falcons to an MVC victory over the Raiders in Wales.

Mallorie Bourret opened the scoring in the first quarter for the Mountain Valley. Julie Mooney tied the game up for Oak Hill with 11:17 left in regulation.

Mountain Valley's Brooke Brown made five saves. Sierra Lane stopped nine shots for Oak Hill.

Leah Thibodeau scored two goals as the Red Eddies (1-7) shut out the Windjammers in Auburn.

Edward Little's Kasey Smith and Camden Hills' Tess Hodgkins each made four saves.

The Ramblers (8-0) came from behind and with a big second half took down the Cougars (5-2-1) in Dixfield.

In the first quarter, Dirigo's Emily Wood scored off an assist from Jayce Brophy to give her team a 1-0 lead over undefeated Winthrop.

Dirigo held the lead through the first half, but Winthrop tied the game in the third quarter thanks to a goal from Izzy Folsom, which was assisted by Maddie Perkins.

In the fourth quarter, Lauryn Wood scored the game-winning goal from a pass from Bella Littler with 2:03 left in the game.

Elle Folsom made three saves for Winthrop, while Alyvia Ellis stopped eight shots in goal for Dirigo.

Amara Denis scored three goals in the first 11 minutes to steer the Raiders past the Seahawks in Boothbay.

Lindsey Bailey, Eliana Smith, Gabrielle Chessie, Paige Gonya, Kendall Gervias, Emily Dillman and Carlee Austin each scored for Oak Hill. Winning goalies Paige Gonya and Mackenzie Vattaso didn't have to make a save in net for the Raiders.

Emilie Crocker made 30 saves for Boothbay/Wiscasset and D'Nisha Dawkins added two.

Maria Benoit scored 2:38 into the second half to lift the Bulldogs (5-0) to victory in Buckfield.

Rita Benoit assisted on the goal, which was one of 26 shots the Bulldogs had for the game. Aubrey Gilbert had a save for Hall-Dale.

Ruby Cyr made 20 saves for Buckfield (4-3).

The Falcons (3-3) scored all three goals in the first half to beat the Phoenix (2-5) in Rumford.

Jayden Boulanger, Emma Clukey and Ryleigh Richard all found the back of the net with Ali Mazza assisting Clukey on her goal. Mountain Valley goalies Emma Koch and Brooke Chase each saved three shots.

Spruce Mountain goalie Emma Towers saved 13 shots.
