Area roundup: Autumn Freeman scores six goals in Mountain Valley's romp over Mattanawcook

Oct. 23—RUMFORD — Autumn Freeman turned in a pair of hat tricks and Mallorie Bourret scored the other goal in the No. 5 Mountain Valley's 7-0 victory over 12th-ranked Mattanawcook Academy (0-15) in the opening round of the Class C North field hockey playoffs on Friday.

Mountain Valley (12-2-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half and then scored four more goals in the second half. Freeman's six-goal performance and an assist meant she had a hand in every goal. Bourret and Alana Young each had an assist.

Goalie Brooke Brown never had to make a save. The Lynx had no shots on net. The Falcons head to Orono on Tuesday.

Ella Plourde scored the game-winning goal for the No. 8 Phoenix (8-5-2) in the second half of a Class C North prelim game against the No. 9 Tigers (6-9) in Jay.

Miley Fournier also scored for Spruce Mountain in the first half and Aubrey Kachnovich had an assist. Jayden Achorn made 15 saves in the win.

Presley Dow scored for Dexter while Molly Bennett (four saves) and Sunny Bache (three saves) were in goal.

Danny Levesque and Elijah Fullerton each turned in a hat trick, and teammate Hunter Brissette scored two goals in Lisbon's (13-2) victory over the Seahawks (0-13) in a Class South opener in Lisbon.

All three scorers combined for six assists. Lisbon goalie Sean Moore had two saves.

Hunter Driscoll scored four goals as the sixth-seeded Bucks (6-5-2) defeated the 11th-seeded Lions (1-10) in a Class D South prelim at Buckfield.

Zach Shields added a goal and an assist, Cole Brewster and Seamus Keough also scored for Buckfield, and Jaiden Jack had an assist.

Paul Tran scored on a feed from Joel Mishkin for Greater Portland Christian and also set up a goal by Isaac Steward.

Buckfield keeper Gavin Charest made four saves. Logan Hoffman stopped 13 shots for the Lions.

Jacob Nisby earned a hat trick and Eric Vining punched in a pair of goals in the eighth-seeded Black Bears' (6-7-2) win over the ninth-seeded Phoenix (6-6-1) in the opening round of the Class C South playoffs in Readfield.

Maranacook goalie Brayden St. Pierre made 10 saves, while counterpart Jacob Bryant made six.

Holden McKenney had two goals and an assist to lead second-ranked Erskine past 15th-seeded Poland in a Class B South boys prelim game Friday.

Liam Perfetto, Carson Appel and Wes McGlew scored the other goals for the Eagles (11-2-2). Aiden Larrabee chipped in two assists while Timber Parlin made three saves. Erskine will host Cape Elizabeth in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

Trevor Robbins stopped 18 shots for Poland (2-12-0).

Chuma Johnson, Benjamin Ndamakunda and Senis Belandria Contreras scored for the fifth-seeded Breakers (10-5) against the 12th-seeded Lakers (3-8-1) in a Class D South prelim in Freeport.

Ben Altenburg finished off an Eddie Caldera corner kick just four minutes into the contest to start the No. 7 Capers (9-5-1) on their way to a win over the 10th-seeded Patriots (6-6-2) in a Class B South prelim at Cape Elizabeth.

Sam Cochran converted a penalty kick in the 44th minute, and Stewart Kelley scored with an assist from Caldera in the 73rd.

Hayden Fletcher scored five goals — all in the second half — to lead the Mustangs to the win in the Class C South prelim round in Monmouth.

Alex Orne scored for an assist from Ryan Michaud for Monmouth (11-2-2) while Hunter Frost made four saves. The Mustangs received solid defense from Ben Hamann, Blaine Paradis and Luke Harmon. Monmouth will play Hall-Dale in the quarterfinals next.

Zack New stopped 22 shots for the Falcons (2-11-0).

The eighth-seeded Wildcats (7-6-2) battled through five sets of five penalty kicks before emerging with a win over the No. 9 Hornets (7-6-2) in a Class B South prelim at York.

York's Roan Spencer tied the game with 2:21 left in regulation.

The Wildcats advance to face No. 1 Yarmouth in the quarterfinals.

Iain Clendening scored twice and Luke Patterson added a goal and an assist as the fifth-seeded Dragons (11-3-1) downed the 12th-seeded Cougars (2-13) in a Class A North prelim in Brunswick.

Mateus Nasciemento also scored, and Tommy Labbe, Luke Vazdauskas, Jack Banks each got an assist. Brady LaForge made 10 saves for Brunswick.

Joshua Greenlaw and Edan Havtan scored and Colby Ranger made 16 saves for Mt. Blue.

Ava Feeley scored in each half and also got an assist, leading the second-seeded Clippers (13-1-1) past the 15th-seeded Knights (1-14-1) in a Class B South prelim at Yarmouth.

Yarmouth led 2-0 at halftime with the help of a Taylor Oranellas goal. Macy Gilroy, Neena Panozzo and Aine Powers scored in the second half.

Jillian Barnes stopped 13 shots for Poland.

Brittany Carrier scored five times for the No. 7 Bucks (6-5-2) in a Class D South preliminary round win against the Vikings (2-8) in Buckfield.

Mackenna Ridlon and Mya Austin each had two goals. Cora Brewester and Annabelle Thone had a goal and an assist.

Ruby Cyr made 0 saves in goal for the Bucks.

Lydia Wentworth made 33 saves for Vinalhaven.

Eryn Parlin scored both goals to lead the No. 6 Cougars (10-4-1) past the No. 11 River Hawks (1-12-2) in an A North opening-round matchup in Farmington.

Callahan Towle assisted on the first goal, and Meren Zeliger the second. With the goals, Parlin took sole possession of the program single-season points record, and now sits at 45 points accumulated this season.
