Area roundup (8/4): Panthers waive Menomonie native Stokke

Aug. 4—Panthers waive Stokke

The Carolina Panthers waived former Menomonie Mustang Mason Stokke on Wednesday in order to sign safety Doug Middleton.

Stokke signed with the Panthers in the spring as an undrafted free agent. The former two-way star with the Mustangs made a name for himself after moving from linebacker to fullback with the Wisconsin Badgers, creating space for the team's running backs before eventually developing into a bit of an offensive threat himself. He finished with 109 career rushing yards, 105 receiving yards and six total touchdowns.

Carroll Academic All-American

UW-Stout's Lucas Carroll was named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America Division III At-Large Team by CoSIDA on Wednesday. He is a third team selection.

Carroll, a forward for the Blue Devils hockey team and sprinter on the track & field team, is one of 45 student-athletes to make the cut. He graduated this spring with a 4.0 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.
