Area Legion roundup: Gregory County nips Platte-Geddes in extra innings

Jun. 16—PLATTE — Rylan Peck and Bryce Frank notched RBI singles in the top of the 10th inning to push Gregory County past Platte-Geddes 6-4 on Tuesday in Legion baseball play.

Gregory (3-0) took a 4-3 lead in the top of the ninth after Rhoss Oliver stole home but an error on a Jackson Neuman ground ball tied the game for Platte-Geddes in the bottom of the ninth.

Peck and Frank both finished with two hits and an RBI, while Ben Witt drove in two runs. Hunter VanNuewenhuis allowed two earned runs on five hits, while striking out 10 in 5 2/3 innings.

Neumann and Grayson Hanson both went 2-for-4 for Platte-Geddes (1-1), while Jackson Olsen finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kelby VanDerWerff had an RBI. Neumann and VanDerWerff surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and nine walks, while striking out 10.

Gregory hosts Valentine (Neb.) at 7:30 p.m. on June 23. Platte-Geddes plays Winner/Colome at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Winner.

Wessington Springs 5, MVPCS 4

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Wessington Springs scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to nip Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney Tuesday in Legion baseball action.

Clay Olinger was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Caden Slykhuis tied the game with a sacrifice fly, before Dylan Schimke scored on a wild pitch with two outs to win.

Olinger went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Wessington Springs, while Blaze Herdman and Camden Jost both notched two hits. Tyler Kole surrendered one earned run on three hits and three walks, while striking out four in a complete-game win.

Hayden Plamp went 2-for-3 for the Ducks, while Brendan Wentland, Jaylen Kemp and Kolby Kayser all had RBIs. Four MVPCS pitchers allowed five earned runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out eight.

The Ducks host Scotland/Menno at 3 p.m. Sunday in Mount Vernon.

Tabor 14, Alexandria 3

ALEXANDRIA — Preston Nedved's three-run home run sparked a six-run first inning as Tabor rolled past Alexandria Tuesday.

Nedved finished with four RBIs for the Bluebirds, while Kaleb Kubal and Riley Rothschadl both went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Nolan Carda went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Dustin Honomichl and Carter Uecker each notched two hits and an RBI.

Dawson Bietz allowed one earned run on five hits and five walks in four innings for Tabor.

Hayden Bahmuller had an RBI and allowed two earned runs on two hits in two innings for the Angels.

Tabor (7-4) travels to Canova at 7 p.m. on June 22. Alexandria (1-6) plays Scotland/Menno at 7 p.m. Thursday in Menno.
