GIRLS: Copan 57, Bluejacket 10

Copan High's Elyzabeth Odum earned a mention Thursday night as one of the great performances by an area prep girls basketball player.

Odum put together a triple-double - 24 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists - to put the Lady Hornets on her shoulders.

She nailed 67 percent of her field goals - including 80 percent from two-point territory.

Kylee Cobb and Addie Hunter added 14 points each for Copan, followed by Rylee VanSchuyver with three and Jayden Purdum with two.

Zoey Secondine flexed her muscles on the boards, grabbing 10.

Odum played at a high level last weekend in the Caney Valley tourney, earning All-Tourney honors.

In an 54-38 victory against Barnsdall, Odum scored 17 points, followed by Cobb with 12.

BOYS: Copan 57, Bluejacket 25

Levi VanSchuyver and Jarrett Shambles stirred the nets for 17 points each to spearhead the Copan attack.

But, the offense needed a while to rev up.

"It was slow the first half," said Copan head coach Kolton Stacy. "We couldn't make layups and we were turning the ball over. It just wasn't pretty. It was only 25-16 at halftime."

The Hornets turned up the intensity in the second half.

Kane Foreman provided an important boost with 11 points.

"The last two games have probably been his best two games all year as far as an all-around player, including rebounding and playing defense," Stacy said. "He was getting in there and mixing it up."

GIRLS: Caney Valley 41, Chelsea 26

Caney Valley bolted to its 13th win thanks to second half domination (23-8).

Sammi Gilbreath and Jade Upton drilled 13 and 12 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Trojans, followed by Libby Thompson with eight. Kensly Foreman dropped in four points, Chloe Scherman scored three and Amaya Toftee notched one.

Calling off the press helped Caney Valley (13-4) take control, according to head coach Deric Longan.

He credited Upton with leading the way in the first half and Gilbreath for carrying the team home after halftime.

"It seemed like everyone found their niche," he said.
