Area girls basketball roundup: Hanson opens season with convincing win

Dec. 4—ALEXANDRIA — The Hanson girls basketball team opened the season with a convincing victory over Centerville in a 63-37 triumph Friday night at home.

Hanson (1-0): Eliza Oltmanns had 18 points and seven steals, with Alyssa Moschell adding 17 points and five rebounds in the win. The Beavers' Annalyse Weber ahd seven assists and five rebounds and Karlie Goergen had seven steals. The Beavers will host Ethan on Dec. 11 in Alexandria.

Centerville (0-1): Mackenzie Meyer scored 14 points, while Lillie Eide had 13 points, five assists and five steals, with Bailey Hanson adding seven rebounds. The Tornadoes are back in action on Dec. 7 hosting Canistota.

Freeman Academy/Marion 52, Colome 31

COLOME — Freeman Academy/Marion traveled west and earned a road victory to open the girls basketball season on Friday night.

FAM (1-0): For the Bearcats, Jada Koerner had 21 points and Estelle Waltner scored 14, with FAM scoring 26 points in each half and holding Colome to just 12 points in the first half. FAM travels to Sunshine Bible Academy on Dec. 7.

Colome (0-1): Maura Luedke had 16 points for the Cowgirls, while Katie Welker had six points and Shaleena Kingsley had five points. Toree Ringing Shield added nine rebounds in the home loss for Colome, who travels to Corsica-Stickney on Dec. 11.
