Area football players earn All-State honors

Dec. 7—The Aiken Standard coverage area is well represented on the South Carolina Football Coaches Association's All-State teams.

In all, 35 players from 10 high schools received honors in their respective classifications.

Ridge Spring-Monetta led the way with 10 players earning Class A All-State recognition. Defensive back Ty Adams, specialist Jaden Jeffery, quarterback Remedee Leaphart, offensive lineman Kanaan Ligons, defensive back Jamarious Lockett and wide receivers Tykeem Martin and Bret Smith all made the team, and lineman Peter Blacks, wide receiver/defensive back Deante Hopkins and running back/linebacker Dantrell Weaver were honorable mentions.

Joining them on the Class A team are Williston-Elko linebacker Chris Davis and Wagener-Salley offensive lineman Jamari Stroman, and Wagener-Salley running back/defensive back Ian Stroman is an honorable mention.

Five members of the Region 5-AAAA champion South Aiken T-Breds earned Class AAAA honors, led by linebacker Demaurion Ginn and offensive lineman MJ Torres. Running back Jevon Edwards and offensive linemen Brooks Jenison and Reece Jenison are honorable mentions.

North Augusta specialist Drew Stevens also made the team, and Yellow Jackets running back DJ Curry is an honorable mention along with Aiken High linebacker/defensive lineman Jayden Fuller and running back/linebacker/punter DJ Simmons.

Class AA runner-up Silver Bluff placed five team members on the Class AA All-State team: offensive lineman Connor Barton, running back Traevon Dunbar, defensive lineman Jaden McLeod and quarterback Maleik Williams, with offensive lineman Corey Heath making it as an honorable mention.

Those five are joined by four Barnwell Warhorses: tight end Jaden James, running back Mario Jones and running back Tyler Smith, plus honorable mention wide receiver/defensive back Clay Pender.

Two Strom Thurmond Rebels and two Fox Creek Predators made the Class AAA All-State team. Strom Thurmond's Devron Williams was picked at linebacker, and defensive lineman Chase Brightharp was an honorable mention. From Fox Creek, quarterback Michael Adams and offensive lineman Nick Williams were both honorable mentions.
