From the Archives: Jan. 22 in the Pioneer

Jan. 24—January 22, 2012 — Bemidji's bench players made the most of their extended playing time Saturday and their efforts helped the Bemidji boys basketball team defeat Duluth Denfeld 77-69. Devaughn Rainey reached double figures with 11 points, JC Cervenka scored 12 and Brandon Supalla played a complete game, giving the Jacks quality minutes when they were needed.

January 22, 1997 — The state last week won a disaster declaration from President Clinton, meaning that federal aid will become available for financially strapped local governments in battling snow. Gov. Arne Carlson is asking the Legislature to put $20 million into a disaster fund to help Minnesotans with emergency needs caused by the winter storms.

January 22, 1972 — All area adult musicians are invited to begin rehearsal with the Bemidji College Community Band during the winter quarter. Dr. Ted Thorson, director of the band, notes that rehearsals are held every Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Bangsberg Fine Arts Center recital hall.

January 22, 1922 — Unbeknown to Bemidji fans, the Bemidji Army basketball team traveled to Cass Lake Friday noon and played the Cass Lake city team there Friday night and won by a score of 18 to 17. Considering that the Bemidji team did not have its regular line-up, the fact that the game was that close is accounted for.
