Annexation first step in possible housing development

May 6—The annexation of a nearly 20-acre property into the city of Claremore could be the first step in developing 100 single family lots.

Kyle Clifton said the property is 19.87 acres and sits just south of Highway 20 and west of South Haven Road.

"The property owner filed a petition to annex this property into the city," said Clifton, adding that the property is currently zoned for agricultural use and will retain that zoning designation .

"The prospective buyer hopes to develop a max of 100 single family lots on the property," he said. "They're still going through site planning on this property. Annexation is the first step of a multi-step process."

When asked by a city council member if there will be any issues providing utilities to the property, Clifton said the property in question currently has no water or sewer.

"They are working with [City Engineer Garrett Ball] and his team to find a solution for that. Assuming we can provide both of those things, there will be no issue," Clifton said. "If for some reason we can't provide sanitary sewer that will drastically decrease the number of lots they can develop on this property."With no further questions from the city council, the request for annexation was approved.
