Anna Steinbeck, Jack Pletcher named all-state by Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association

The Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association released its annual all-state teams for the 2021 campaign.

Windber junior midfielder Anna Steinbeck was selected to the girls' team while Rockwood senior forward Jack Pletcher garnered honors on the boys' squad.

The Windber girls captured WestPAC and District 5 Class A gold en route to a 19-2 mark and a PIAA playoff appearance.

Steinbeck led the way for the Ramblers. She notched 26 goals and 23 assists. Steinbeck had eight multi-goal games. She tallied four goals in a contest twice this season, including a four-goal, six assist output against Tussey Mountain.

"This is honestly very rewarding and a huge honor for me," said Steinbeck. "It is the first all-state selection of coach Paul Buza's coaching career. That is a really big deal for me, and I'm sure it is for him. It is nice to see Somerset County players get recognized across the state. I congratulate everyone in the area who has earned this honor as well."

A captain this season, Steinbeck led by example, displaying her hard work throughout the year.

"It was a fun year for all of us," she said. "We accomplished all the goals we set at the beginning of the season. I am very happy I had a great team behind me that allowed me to lead them. The other captains, Rylee (Ott) and Gina (Gaye), we just had a great connection as a team and as leaders to achieve the goals we set and accomplished."

Coach Buza has seen Steinbeck's dedication to the sport over the years. It proved this season.

"Anna is one of the hardest working athletes I have ever had the opportunity to coach," Buza said. "Her knowledge and love for the game is second to none. She is well-deserving of this award, and I look forward to her continued growth as a player and young woman."

Meanwhile, Pletcher recorded 26 goals and 12 assists to cap his high school soccer career.

"This means everything," Pletcher said of the honor. "Playing four years with four different teams of all different skill levels, and having the teammates there to work together makes this so special in my senior year."

Pletcher has been a key contributor for all of Rockwood's recent success. The Rockets won their fourth straight WestPAC crown this season, finishing 15-4.

"There has been a lot of consistency over the years, no down days. I have practiced hard each day," Pletcher said. "My teammates and my family have supported me so much along the way as well."

Rockwood coach Dan Weaver will lose a major asset and leader on and off the field in Pletcher.

"Jack is one of the hardest workers on the team at practice and in games," Weaver said. "He has great vision on the field and works hard every day to get better."
