Andy Dalton, Jake Arrieta headline TCU’s 2022 Hall of Fame class

It’s hard to envision a Hall of Fame class with more star power than what TCU Athletics will be inducting on Sept. 29.

The school announced its 2022 class on Saturday, headlined by former football great Andy Dalton and baseball star Jake Arrieta. Dalton’s center, Jake Kirkpatrick, and another baseball standout, Bryan Holaday, are also part of the class. So are Jason Flint (swimming and diving) and Jackson Langat (track and field).

Lee Williams (track and field) is the “vintage” honoree, while longtime athletics administrator Jack Hesselbrock is being inducted in the “special contributor” category.

“It doesn’t get better than this,” John Denton, TCU’s Block T executive director said in a statement. “We are elated with this stellar group of Hall of Famers, which exemplifies TCU greatness as our 54th class of TCU immortals.”

The 2022 class will be formally inducted on Sept. 29 at Amon G. Carter Stadium’s Legends Club & Suites. They’ll be recognized at TCU’s Oct. 1 home football game vs. Oklahoma.

Here’s a look at what each accomplished during their playing days —

Dalton: TCU’s all-time winningest quarterback with a 42-8 record. He led the Frogs to a perfect season in the 2010 season, capped with a Rose Bowl victory. Dalton held every major TCU quarterback record when he left and is now entering his 12th NFL season.

Arrieta: Arrieta was a standout for the Frogs’ baseball team in 2006-07, earning All-American honors in 2006. He was a two-time all-conference selection and the 2006 Mountain West co-pitcher of the year. Arrieta went on to a 12-year MLB career, winning the National League Cy Young in 2015.

Kirkpatrick: Kirkpatrick won the 2010 Rimington Trophy as the nation’s top center, not allowing a sack or committing a penalty during the Rose Bowl season. He was a two-time first-team All-American.

Holaday: Holaday was named the country’s top catcher in 2010, winning the Johnny Bench Award. He helped TCU to its first College World Series appearance in 2010. He went on to have a 10-year MLB career.

Flint: Flint was TCU’s record holder in four events and undefeated in the 200 breaststroke over his four-year career, earning All-American honors in 1997. He was a member of the Canadian National Team, winning three gold medals at the 1997 Canada Games.

Langat: Langat was a seven-time All-American, winning the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championship in the 800 meters. As a freshman in 2003, Langat was part of TCU’s 4x400 team that earned a silver medal at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Williams: Williams was a 1974 All-American who had two top-five finishes in the mile relay at the NCAA Championships. He set TCU records in the 400 and mile relay. Williams went on to become the longtime track and field coach at O.D. Wyatt High School.

Hesselbrock: Hesselbrock worked in TCU’s athletic department for 30 years, holding various roles under five ADs. He was the school’s first full-time athletics academic advisor and oversaw a 100% graduation rate for football students in 1986. He went on to advance to a senior associate athletics director position.
