Andrew Heller: Twin Valley advances to District 3 Class 2A girls lacrosse championship game

May 24—Twin Valley will make its second consecutive appearance in the District 3 Class 2A girls lacrosse championship game after beating the fourth-seeded Red Land 20-4 in a semifinal Monday night at Twin Valley.

The top-seeded Raiders (21-1), who also clinched a PIAA playoff berth, will take on defending champ York Catholic at Central Dauphin on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a rematch of last year's final. The second-seeded Irish (19-1) defeated third-seeded Susqehannock 8-5 on Monday.

Emma Raines scored nine goals to lead the Raiders. Anna Kaplan had a team-high five assists.

Twin Valley led 12-4 at halftime.

The Patriots scored following a timeout to take a 3-2 lead with 13:05 left in the first half.

Twin Valley responded by scoring seven unanswered goals.

"Yes, things were not looking good for a second," Raiders coach Courtney Kaplan said. "But everyone was like, 'Relax, we are good to go,' and everyone was very calm and they talked it over and adjusted."

Red Land scored its final goal with 4:16 left in the first half and the Raiders answered soon after when Raines scored with 3:39 left to give Twin Valley a 10-4 lead.

The Raiders scored two goals in the final 20 seconds of the first half.

For Twin Valley, Julia Givens scored seven goals and had three assists, Kaplan scored two goals, Kaitlyn Davis scored a goal and had two assists, Anna Givens scored a goal and had an assist, Jade Shearer had two assists and Emma Winther and Jessie Robinette each had one assist.

Zayda Compton led the Patriots (17-3) with two goals.

Paige Borkowski had four saves for the Raiders.

Twin Valley beat York Catholic 17-7 on March 30.
