Andre Drummond goes off after trade to Cavs: 'There's no friends or loyalty' in NBA

Andre Drummond doesn’t sound too happy to be leaving the Detroit Pistons. Drummond expressed frustration Thursday, saying he was caught off-guard by his trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In his note, the 26-year-old Drummond calls out the Pistons, saying, “There’s no friends or loyalty” in the NBA.

Drummond was one of the many casualties of the NBA trade deadline Thursday. He was shipped to the Cavs in exchange for Brandon Knight, John Henson and a second-round pick.

Though Drummond says he was caught off-guard by the deal, rumors had persisted for months that the Pistons would try to trade Drummond. On Thursday morning, however, it looked as though Drummond would remain with the team. That changed as the deadline got closer.

Drummond made sure to let Pistons fans know he wasn’t upset with them, saying he loves Detroit. In a follow-up tweet, Drummond said the city will “always have a special place in my heart.”

After being drafted by the Pistons in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft, Drummond had spent his entire career with the team. Over eight seasons, Drummond has averaged 14.4 points and 13.9 rebounds in Detroit. He was a two-time All-Star with the team.

While the Pistons (19-34) aren’t in good shape to make the playoffs, Drummond heads to an even worse situation with the Cavaliers. At 13-39, Cleveland has the second-worst record in the NBA.

Drummond doesn’t have to stay in Cleveland long. He can opt out of his contract at the end of the season, and will likely do that barring a massive turnaround by the Cavaliers.

At that point, Drummond will hit the market, where he’ll have some say in his next landing spot. Based on Drummond’s feelings after this trade, a reunion with the Pistons seems unlikely.
