All Anderson County public schools, Pickens County schools move to remote learning Tuesday

Pickens County and all of Anderson County's school districts have cancelled in-person classes for Tuesday and all have gone to an eLearning day.

Pickens County cited icy roads and District Three said it was due to unsafe travel conditions.

District Five made the decision early Monday after determining that the most favorable conditions during the day would likely still result in side roads being difficult for buses and parents on Tuesday morning, said district spokesman Kyle Newton.

He said the main roads would likely be good in most places on Tuesday morning but there are plenty of shady and smaller roads that district officials believe would remain poor into Tuesday morning when ice would be a risk.

Wednesday school has not been moved digital, those classes are planned to be in person but road conditions later today or on Tuesday could lead to another eLearning day.

The districts are also monitoring COVID cases, which had been trending upward on Thursday when students left for a long weekend.

Monday is a holiday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and students were not in school remotely or in-person today.
